Today on the HUNGER blog tour, there’s a review and interview with Presenting Lenore! Click here to find out more about Biblical influences, the best question I was ever asked, and more about my cat than you probably wanted to know.
Also, please check out the HUNGER review at Teens Read and Write — and be sure to enter the contest for a copy of the book!
And then check out the detailed HUNGER review over at Book Faery!
Plus: RAGE NEWS! The official pub date for RAGE has been moved up to Monday, April 4, 2011. If you’re going to the RT 2011 convention in Los Angeles, I’ll be signing copies at the big book fair. Hope to see you there!

Today’s HUNGER blog tour stop is at The Story Siren, for an interview! I talk about the importance of scales in the book, as well as who my favorite character was to write, and other things too. Thanks for the interview, Kristi!
More reviews of HUNGER have been coming in…as well as a number for RAGE! (For the record, it’s very surreal to see reviews of book #2 before book #1 has technically launched.) Here are a few:
Wayfaring Writer: another interview with me, as well as a review of HUNGER
Miles 2 Go: reviews both HUNGER and RAGE
Bibliophilic Monologues: re-posts a HUNGER review
Writing Is A Blessing: selects RAGE for this week’s Waiting On Wednesday
Reading Angel: reviews HUNGER
Whatchamacallit Reviews: reviews HUNGER
Okay, so maybe that’s a lot and not a few. My continued heartfelt thanks to all who have read and reviewed HUNGER (OMG, and RAGE)! HUNGER officially launches on Monday. I’m giddy!
Separately…I finished the LOSS synopsis, finally! My fabulous crit partner has weighed in, and now my agent is reviewing it, along with the first five chapters of the book. Fingers crossed she likes it!

Well, because Goodreads has the cover for RAGE posted — and because it’s official — I figured that it’s time to share the cover here on my blog.
 Cover to RAGE
I absolutely love it!
Now, I just received my author copies of HUNGER…and I have to say that the final cover, with all its gorgeous artwork and fonts and foil, is even more spectacular than the cover on the ARC, or the still image seen at places like Goodreads and online bookstores. So I’m positive that the final cover to RAGE will be even more phenomenal than this sneak peek.
Like with HUNGER, the cover art for RAGE is (c) Sammy Yuen.
(Now I have to go back to freaking out over HUNGER hitting the shelves in just over three weeks.

One of the funky things about publishing is that new books start getting promoted even before a previous book hits the shelves. So even though HUNGER won’t be out for nearly three months, RAGE is available for preorder at some places like here — and hey, there’s even back cover copy!
She brought the razor to her inner thighs again and again and again, but with each sting came no release, no comforting numbness that dulled the horror of her life.
It wasn’t enough. So she cut again—swiftly, mercilessly.
Missy didn’t mean to cut so deep. But after the party where she was humiliated in front of practically everyone in school, who could blame her for wanting some comfort? Sure, most people don’t find comfort in the touch of a razor blade, but Missy always was . . . different.
That’s why she was chosen to become one of the Four Horsemen Apocalypse: War. Now Missy wields a different kind of blade — a big, brutal sword that can cut down anyone and anything in her path. But it’s with this weapon in her hand that Missy learns something that could help her triumph over her own pain: control.
A unique approach to the topic of self-mutilation, RAGE is the story of a young woman who discovers her own power, and refuses to be defeated by the world.

That’s the text that will appear on the back cover of RAGE, and it’s already in the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt online catalog.
For those of you who have read HUNGER already, Death has more of a role in RAGE. (Yeah, I’m psyched about that too!)
~
I owe tons of people swag (sorry) and interview answers (ditto), and I’m woefully behind on Post Mortem (mea culpa). In August, I’m going to be focusing on writing LOSS, but I promise to play catch up!

Publishers Marketplace has officially announced what I learned last week:
Italian rights to HUNGER and RAGE sold to Newton Compton in a four-book deal!
Yes, this means I’m working on books three and four of the Riders’ Quartet. Working on Book Three right now. The working title is LOSS, and this time, the Horseman is Pestilence.
Rock on!

I heard back from the Best Agent Ever (aka, my fabulous agent), and she loved RAGE. She had no changes, other than catching one typo. Other than that, she said, it was all gushing.
ME: **happy dance**
So I just sent the manuscript to my editor, one full week early! Rahr!!! Fingers crossed that she loves it.

Whew — I’m done with the first page proofs for HUNGER. Translation: I proofread the typeset pages. (Eeeeee!) It’s getting closer to being A Real Book. And I feel like a goof, but I almost cried when I read the last line. It’s a good last line.
(Okay, so I’m a little biased.)
I also finished the first draft of RAGE, and I’m about to give it a clean read and make my tweaks before I send it onto my fabulous crit partner for her review.

Holy cats, where did 2009 go?
Ah, who cares? It’s gone, baby, gone, and 2010 has begun. I, for one, am glad. I’ve been looking forward to 2010 for a while now, for a number of reasons. The biggest, of course, is HUNGER coming out in August.
But there will be plenty more Post Mortem interviews coming — starting tonight. Stay tuned.
I’m currently working on RAGE, the second book in the Riders’ series. It’s rolling along — I’ve got about six chapters to go. Something interesting happened a few chapters back: I realized I didn’t like the synopsis for the rest of the book. So I rewrote it. Yeah, that happens sometimes: the story we think we’re going to write winds up not being the story we actually write. As long as the story that comes out is the **right** story, that’s what matters. (She typed confidently.)
Okay, I’ve got a Post Mortem interview to post. Diana Peterfreund’s Astrid, the heroine of RAMPANT, took some time out from unicorn-hunting to talk to Death. Good stuff. (I will never watch LEGEND the same way again.)

WHAT I’M CURRENTLY READING: Princeps’ Fury, Jim Butcher
***
So I’m working on the fifth chapter of RAGE, and it’s very slow-going. More like a slow boil than full-blown rage.
This is one of those stories that it’s not enough to get a fast draft down and then return to it in a revision and polish to get it right; I have to get it as close to right as possible the first time. Which is a little daunting (especially with the events of chapter five; oy, I’m torn between wanting to tell my protagonist NOOOOOOOOOOO and wanting to tell my protagonist FINE THEN JUST DO IT ALREADY).
I’ve got Nirvana playing on iTunes (my iPod died, alas!), I’m about to get some tea. I have a Cinnabon waiting for me after I do a good job today.
Okay, chapter 5. In the immortal words of the Sick Puppies: One of us is going down.

It’s official: the HUNGER launch date is…
August 11, 2010!!!
Not a fall release after all! I don’t see any pre-order information yet, but once I do, I’ll let everyone know.
As of now, RAGE is slated for spring 2011. I’m still writing that manuscript; it’s due March 1, 2010. (That sounds like a lot of time, doesn’t it?) More about RAGE at another time.
