I am thrilled — thrilled, I tell you! — to take part in today’s cover reveal of Ty Drago’s upcoming novel. Ty is a terrific author (and an all around great guy!), and my older son loves his Undertakers series. So do I!
If you’re not familiar with The Undertakers, here’s what you need to know (taken gleefully from the Join the Undertakers website).
They began appearing throughout the Philadelphia area about three years ago. No one knows where they come from. Most of the world sees them as everyday people: teachers, policemen, lawyers, even folks on T.V. Only those with the Sight can penetrate their illusion and know they actually are the walking dead. These animated cadavers are intelligent and organized. They’re terrifyingly dangerous. They’ve invaded our world like a plague and are slowly worming their way into the institutions that run our society–the schools, the police department–city and state government. They want power. They want to control us, maybe even enslave us. They have to be stopped. The handful of Seers who know them for what they are call them “Corpses.” The Seers call themselves the Undertakers. They’ve fled their homes and families, banding together to fight an invasion that only they know about. And the oldest of the Undertakers is only seventeen.
The first book is RISE OF THE CORPSES.
“On a sunny Wednesday morning in October, a day that would mark the end of one life and the beginning of another, I found out my grouchy next door neighbor was the walking dead. When you turn around expecting to see something familiar, and instead see something else altogether, it takes a little while for your brain to catch up with your eyes. I call it the ‘Holy Crap Factor.'”
Forced to flee his home and family, twelve-year-old Will Ritter falls in with the Undertakers–a rag-tag army of teenage resistance fighters who’ve banded together to battle the Corpses.
The second book is QUEEN OF THE DEAD.
Twelve -year old Will Ritter and his rag-tag army of teenage resistance fighters may have triumphed over the Zombies (alien-possessed corpses) last time…but that’s the thing about the dead- they keep coming back. A new Corpse leader has crossed the rift and taken command of the invasion: The Queen of the Dead is even more brilliant and ruthless than her predecessor, and her ambitions are even deadlier. Will and the crew must somehow rescue his mother, prevent an assassination, and show FBI Agent Ramirez the truth about the Corpses-and the danger the world faces.
But how do a bunch of kids prove to a grown-up that monsters are real?
I’ve read both of these books, as well as the three-part novella “Night of Monsters.” I’ve even had a sneak peak at the third book. The series is fantastic — strong characters, gripping plot, terrific action, excellent dialogue — and each book is better than the one before. As soon as my older son entered middle school, he started reading the series, and he’s completely hooked. This is a zombie series unlike any other. (They’re not zombies, as Will Ritter reminds us; zombies are slow and stupid. These are Corpses.) If you like heart-pounding upper-middle-grade action/adventure, then I hugely recommend this series.
And now…the cover reveal for the third book!
The Corpses are up something.
U.S. Senator Lindsay Micha had been kidnapped and replaced with a “dead” ringer, the sister to Lilith Cavanaugh, the Queen of the Dead. Now Will Ritter must go undercover in our nation’s capital to ferret out the truth and try to stop this ambitious deader. But his mission becomes even more dangerous when he learns of a mysterious ten-legged monster that prowls the halls of the Capitol Building — a lethal monster with a taste for Corpse flesh.
Can such an alien “enemy of his enemy” truly become Will’s friend?
