Contest: Signed copy of HUNGER

Hey, anyone want a signed copy of HUNGER?

Ooh, you do? Cool! I’m going to give one away to one lucky commenter, picked completely at random! All you have to do to enter is answer the following: We know about the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: Famine, War, Pestilence/The Conqueror, and Death. If you could add a Fifth Horseman, who would it be? Make the answer serious, funny, cute, silly, philosophical…whatever works! But you have to answer it to be officially entered in the contest.

Winner will be picked at random on Saturday, October 9, 2010, and announced here on the blog. The winner will have 48 hours to email me with a mailing address…otherwise I’ll pick a new winner.

Have at it!

I’ll say greed, it is the foundation of everything.

  2. Stephanie says:

The pessimist in me says DESTRUCTION – after everything has been killed off, the last thing to happen would be the complete destruction of the world.

    BUT

The optimist in me says FORGIVENESS – Without forgiveness, the end would truly be the end and no amount of compassion/truth/love/hope will make a difference.

  3. Irene says:

Ooh, I have no clue. I’m going with remorse, just because that’s the first thing that popped into my head. It was either that, or pink flying unicorns… :)

  4. Melissa Finch says:

I will have to go with Greed. Cause Human greed will always lead to our destruction. Whether it be greed over money, land or simple thing as coveting another’s wife or husband or property. We see it everyday society and on the news.

  5. Daniel says:

Woo, tough one.. the horsemen being the harbingers and the signs of the apocalypse as seen in the old days, lets go with more modern concerns – Pride and/or Fear, a lot of conflicts in societies are driven by these two, and the conflicts are foreshadowed by their increases and promotions. Or go Orwellian with Separation. Or go with pOny. Everyone likes ponies.

  6. Jessi C says:

The 5th horseman should be insanity/madness.

  7. I say Alienation. Because no matter what you go through in life, to go it alone would be even worse than it is. I think people fear being alone more than they fear death (or at least, they do in the Reader’s Digest poll I just finished). Thanks for offering a copy of the book!

  8. eden tyler says:

I have to second Indifference. Not much can be worse… People are already too lackluster and obedient. We need opinions and voices — although not to loud or strong. Just a nice range of smarts to go around the world for good conversation and stimulation.
    Yes, Indifference.

  9. Nicole says:

I think so many of the good ideas are up here already! It was hard to think of something not already said! SO I choose vanity. Not just the idea of being caught up in ones appearence of the apperance of others and judging them by it but beyond that. After seeing it defind as “something worthless, trivial, or pointless” it really made me think of how often we get caught up in things like that. Material objects and so many other things. We forget about making changes in the world, doing good things, and people. In the end it may be everyone out for themselves. I’ve seen it shopping when i’ve needed help and people just walk over me or stare but don’t help at all. It’s sad. And vanity in the sense of beauty and arrogance people are so caught up in they forget about everything else. SO I choose that. Some amazing ideas and some I wish I had gotten to use but I was beaten to and some I never even thought of. I can’t wait! Good luck to us all!

  10. A fifth horseman? Hmm… I think Dean Winchester (of Supernatural) would make a brilliant Horseman. ;)

Failing that, I think Insanity would probably be the most interesting.

  11. Lesley says:

I’d have to say Lust (oh-la-la). It drives a lot of people to do crazy things, and that would be a pretty cool book to see too.

  12. Miosotis says:

~~ A guess for me will be “THE URGE TO KILL YOUR WORSE FEAR”, but everything and everyone you see looks like it ~~

  13. I would name the horse –The Repression or blood lust.. I can’t wait to read the book!!! I’m such a fan of Richelle mead.. Good luck with the name picking!!!

  14. jmspettoli says:

If I had to pick a 5th Horseman I think it would be Charley the Unicorn because everyone loves to hate Charley!

  15. Kathy says:

Fear. Because w/out fear nothing is a threat. If you have no fears…well you could pretty much do anything

  16. Shey says:

I believe Anguish would be a good 5th horseman.

  17. Kathryn says:

Man’s free will. I believe that free will, will be the damnation of all mankind. There is nothing more dangerous in the world (or more beautiful) than free will.

  18. Amy says:

DEPRESSION – All the other four horsemen bring physical blights, so this fifth horsemen will bring a psychological condition that can kill us all.

  19. julia says:

    Nightmare. Coz sounds cool :)

  20. olivia says:

FRIENDSHIP Because you can’t live without friends.

  21. Lale G says:

I think I’d have to go with Envy, because I think it’s the cause of so many terrible crimes in the world. (My first choice, Lack Of Respect For Other People’s Beliefs, was too long :P )

  22. Heather K. says:

I think Solitude would be pretty devastating; thinking you’re alone sucks, but actually being alone would destroy most people. Some Commentors said Insecurity, that would be another great/horrid one.

  23. greyz says:

I’d say LUST. I mean, that’s one sin that people can’t seem to be not tempted. It’s a total irony and double edged blade to enjoy the torment of lust but suffer the unstoppable wanting to lust 24/7. :) Cool way to die I might say! Lol.

  24. The fifth horseman should be “Memory” because it’s a horrible thing to forget things. I don’t mean your car keys or homework but things you learned, experienced or even people you loved. At the same time it can be just as awful to remember things, certain emotions, rape etc.

  25. eveningreen says:

As a 5th Horseman I would pick HATRED, because it’s pretty much the source of all sorts of negative emotions.

  26. kathy :) says:

I have to say “Love” or well “emotions” in general. Misery seems to be said as the outcome of hate. But is it really? it’s an outlet of sorrow, of grief. And what is the culprit of grief? the greed of love. the ache, the need, to have and to hold and cheerish that object of affection. And when that oblect is taken away, one fills that void with love and it’s labeled misery. For one doesn’t drown in misery, but in love.
And yes, I do know how cynical this sounds
