‘Satellite’ by Guster, ‘Soul meets body’ by Death cab for cutie and ‘Still Fighting It’ by Ben Folds always make me feel calm for some reason. Of course, if you want outright hilarity… ‘One Week’ by the Barenaked Ladies and ‘Mood Rings’ by Relient K never fail to make me laugh.

Hi Jackie!

So sorry for your loss! Your blog above expresses exactly how I’ve felt this past year, after having lost two relatives, both of whom I hadn’t been able to see in years. Your words are a help, as I’ve found myself in the “it isn’t fair” spiral many times.

Anyway, I recommend the “Misplaced Childhood” CD by Marillion. You can easily get lost in the music, as it washes over you. Combination old school Genesis, with a touch of Pink Floyd and the Who.

If you want to smile and feel better, Roman Holliday’s first “Cookin’ On The Roof” is a happy contagion. Practically impossible not to feel good when listening to that one!

I’m sorry to hear of your loss. Best wishes to you and your family. My music recommendation is Maire Brennan’s “Signature” CD (http://tinyurl.com/MaireBrennanCD). She was the lead singer for the Celtic group Clannad, although this album is subtler and smoother than their work. Her voice is very gentle and I hope it helps a bit.
